FAQ

Everything you need to know about PianoViz.

Discovering PianoViz

PianoViz turns any piano recording or MIDI file into a cinematic falling-note visualization that moves in time with the performance.

Simply upload your file and PianoViz takes care of the rest: identifying the notes and bringing the music to life in a smooth, responsive real-time visualizer.

Explore the piece interactively, customize its visual style, download the MIDI, and export the complete performance as a Full HD MP4 video at up to 60 fps.

Our goal with PianoViz is simple: build the most advanced piano visualization experience on the web, from the first detected note to the final video.

PianoViz brings together three technologies developed around the same experience:

  • A piano-focused AI transcription engine that turns audio recordings into detailed note data.
  • A custom WebGL2 visualizer designed for speed, precision and exceptionally smooth motion.
  • A GPU-powered video rendering pipeline that transforms your live visualization into a polished Full HD MP4.

Unlike a traditional music visualizer, PianoViz isn’t limited to a pre-rendered animation. You can play, pause, scrub and customize the performance in real time, then export those same visual settings as a high-quality video.

The result is one of the fastest, smoothest and most complete piano visualization experiences available today — and a platform that will keep getting better as our transcription, rendering and creative technologies evolve.

Absolutely. PianoViz is constantly evolving — and what you see today is only the beginning.

We’re continuously improving the piano transcription AI, the responsiveness of the real-time visualizer and the quality and speed of our GPU-powered video exports.

We’re also continuing to refine the editing controls, visual effects and export options available in PianoViz.

PianoViz will keep growing through regular improvements and new features, shaped in large part by the recordings, ideas and feedback shared by our users.

Some of these features are still in development, so their final scope and availability may change.

The PianoViz renderer is built in-house with WebGL2 and uses your device’s graphics hardware to render the notes, keyboard, lighting, glow and particles in real time.

There’s no pre-rendered preview between you and the performance. Playback, scrubbing and visual adjustments respond immediately.

On compatible devices, PianoViz targets smooth high-frame-rate playback, giving it the fluid feel of a native creative tool rather than a traditional web visualizer.

The same rendering technology also powers the visual side of your final video, so the exported result stays true to what you created in the live visualizer.

Yes. Once you’re happy with the result, PianoViz can render the complete performance as a Full HD MP4 video.

The export is produced through our GPU-powered cloud rendering pipeline, combining the PianoViz visual engine with professional video encoding technology. This preserves the smooth animation, precise synchronization and detailed visual effects of the live visualizer throughout the complete performance.

You can choose:

  • Landscape 16:9 in 1920 × 1080
  • Vertical 9:16 in 1080 × 1920
  • 30 or 60 fps

The final video uses your current colors, speed, glow, particles, labels and other visual settings. It’s ready to download and share on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or anywhere else.

Each video export uses one credit.

Absolutely. You can create up to five free 10-second previews within a 24-hour period.

You don’t need an account, a credit card or any credits to try it. The preview lets you experience the AI transcription and real-time visualizer before deciding whether to process the complete piece.

Free previews are temporary and remain available for 24 hours.

Not to explore PianoViz. You can watch the examples and create free previews without signing up.

You’ll only need an account when you want to buy credits, process a full piece, keep your projects or export a video.

Files and transcription

PianoViz supports:

  • MP3
  • WAV
  • FLAC
  • M4A
  • OGG
  • MID and MIDI

Audio files can be up to 50 MB, while MIDI files can be up to 2 MB. The maximum duration is 10 minutes.

Corrupted, unsupported or unusually complex MIDI files may be rejected to keep processing safe and reliable.

A clear solo-piano recording will give you the best result.

A little background noise is usually fine, but vocals, drums or other instruments can make it harder for the transcription engine to isolate the piano.

Today, PianoViz is optimized for solo piano; recordings with several instruments are not fully supported.

MIDI files are the most straightforward because the notes are already part of the file.

PianoViz uses an advanced AI transcription engine developed specifically for piano.

It analyzes the recording to identify each note’s pitch, timing, duration and intensity, including notes played across fast passages and complex performances.

That note data is then used to power both the live visualizer and the generated MIDI file.

Because the technology is specialized for piano rather than general-purpose audio recognition, it can capture far more musical detail from a clean solo-piano recording.

MIDI uploads already contain this information, so they can go directly into the visualizer.

PianoViz can produce highly detailed results, especially with a clean solo-piano recording, but automatic transcription is never perfect every time.

Complex passages, heavy reverb or background instruments can occasionally lead to missing, extra or slightly mistimed notes.

A manual note editor isn’t available yet, but more advanced editing and correction tools are part of the direction we’re exploring.

Once your transcription is ready, you get:

  • The complete interactive visualizer
  • A downloadable MIDI file
  • Access to all visual settings
  • The ability to create a Full HD video
  • A saved project in your Transcriptions page

Creating the full project uses one credit. The MIDI download is included, while each video export uses one additional credit.

Credits and payments

We’ve kept it simple:

  • One full transcription uses one credit.
  • One video export uses one credit.

For example, turning a recording into a complete project and then exporting one video uses two credits in total.

You can create additional video exports from the same project by using one credit for each new export.

No. Your credits stay in your account until you use them.

There’s no subscription and nothing to cancel. Credit packs are one-time purchases, so you can use them whenever inspiration strikes.

You shouldn’t lose a credit for a job that didn’t finish.

If PianoViz reports that a paid transcription or video export has failed, the credit is automatically returned to your account.

Free previews never consume credits.

Customizing your visualization

PianoViz’s real-time renderer gives you plenty of room to shape the look of your performance.

You can adjust:

  • Falling speed
  • Note color
  • Glow color and intensity
  • Particles
  • Keyboard guide line
  • Note labels
  • Key labels

Every change appears immediately while the music is playing. There’s no need to wait for a new preview to render.

Once the result feels right, those same settings are used for your final video export.

It depends on the length of the piece and what you’re creating.

MIDI files and short previews are usually the quickest. Full audio transcriptions and 60 fps video exports can take several minutes, especially for longer pieces.

You’ll see the current progress while PianoViz is working.

If you upload an audio recording, PianoViz keeps that recording with the project and uses it for playback and video export.

For MIDI files, PianoViz generates piano audio from the MIDI notes.

Choosing a replacement piano sound for an audio recording isn’t available yet.

Projects and sharing

All your projects live in the Transcriptions section of your account.

You can reopen the visualizer, rename a project, download its MIDI or video, or delete it when you no longer need it.

Your full projects and exported videos remain available in your account until you delete the project.

Yes. Every project has its own unique PianoViz link.

Anyone with that link can view the project, so you can send it to a student, a friend or a collaborator without asking them to create an account.

Only share the link with people you trust.

Deleting a project immediately removes access to its share link. Its associated audio, MIDI and video files are then scheduled for permanent deletion.

This can’t be undone, so make sure you’ve downloaded anything you want to keep first.

Deleting a successfully completed project does not return the credits used to create it.

Devices and publishing

PianoViz requires a modern browser with WebGL2 support.

For the smoothest and most responsive experience, we recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome. PianoViz is also designed to work on recent versions of Safari, Firefox and Edge, as well as Safari on iPhone and iPad and Chrome on Android.

Performance and feature availability may vary depending on your browser, device and graphics hardware.

For the most immersive full-screen experience on a phone, turn it sideways and use landscape orientation.

A desktop or tablet is still more comfortable when you want to fine-tune lots of visual settings.

Yes, as long as you have the necessary rights to the music and recording.

Your PianoViz export is yours to download and share on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or elsewhere.

You remain responsible for making sure you have permission to use the original performance, recording and composition.
